Science is a human endeavour to discover the structure of the physical universe and understand how it behaves. Scientists do this by performing experiments and making observations.
But this is a BIG job... the universe is extremely old and beyond enormous, and we are but tiny humans with short life spans.

English Physicist, Isaac Newton, once said "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
There is no one person who is credited with the discovery of everything we know so far. Current scientists build on discoveries by scientists of the past, and future scientists will build on what we discover now! |
Why Celebrate Science?
The society that we have built so far is based on the logic, knowledge and creativity of hundreds of thousands of innovators over many centuries. For this reason, it is important to celebrate the science and scientists that have contributed to our world of knowledge, and whose work will eventually lead to incredible applications and even greater discoveries in the future.
Week 5 is National Science Week, where we celebrate the significant role that science plays in improving our society, economy and environment. May we never forget the value of science in our everyday lives.
